Mixing and dispersion behaviours of ellipsoid particles in a bubbling fluidized bed

Fluidization of non-spherical particles is widely practised in chemical engineering processes. In this work, the mixing and dispersion behaviours a bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) are explored by computational fluid dynamics-discrete element method (CFD-DEM) featuring super-quadric model to describe particle morphology. After validation, general flow patterns, solid mixing, ellipsoid studied, together with discussion effect aspect ratio (AR) on fluidization behaviours. The results show that minimum velocity increases ratio. Bed permeability depends porosity shape. Bubbles place significant role determining which induce double-recirculation pattern where mainly move from wall region central lower oppositely upper bed. Ellipsoid higher sphericity (e.g., AR = 0.75 1.5) smaller index magnitudes coefficients x, y, z directions about ~10−3 m2/s, ~10−5 ~ 10−2 respectively. larger intensity. These findings shed light fundamental understanding shape dynamics.
